Ron Clapper was a four-year letter winner and key component of Juniata’s first undefeated football team in 1953. As a captain he played more minutes than anyone else on 1953 team that enjoyed the school’s first undefeated season. In his four seasons, Juniata compiled a 20-9-1 record, including a 13-2 mark in his final two campaigns. He was a center and linebacker and the formation caller for a defense that held offenses to less than 200 total yards in all but one contest and posted three shutouts. Juniata outscored its opponents, 196-39, during the 1953 season and out-gained them, 1,985-1,093. With his contributions the Juniata defense limited opponents to just 39 points in seven contests in 1953, and held opposing teams to just 87.1 rushing yards per game. He was the recipient of the George L. Weber Award given to the Most Valuable Lineman following his senior season and was selected by his teammates as an honorary captain following the completion of the season.
