During his four years on the gridiron, Juniata posted a record of 29-2-1, with the two losses coming during his freshman campaign.

Haushalter began his teaching and coaching career as an assistant for two years at Tyrone High School. He was head coach at Saxton-Liberty High School and later Tussey Mountain High School, leading his 1961 squad to an undefeated 9-0 record and a Western Conference Class A Championship. Haushalter had a four-year mark of 20-15-1 on the Broad Top, before moving on to become head coach at Philipsburg-Osceola High School where he compiled a four-year record of 23-12-5.
