A graduate of nearby Huntingdon Area High School, George Weaver was a stand out in both football and basketball at HAHS and at Juniata. He went on to become one of the best known and most successful high school coaches in Pennsylvania, compiling over 700 victories in four different sports - football, basketball, baseball and track - while coaching some 37 years until his retirement from Huntingdon in 1976. His grid teams at Wyoming Memorial High School and Huntingdon combined for a 136-80-14 mark in 24 seasons. Huntingdon went 10-0 in 1955 when he earned Central Counties Coach of the Year honors. In 30 years, his basketball teams were 448-229, including winning records in 21-of-24 seasons at Huntingdon with six Mountain League titles and one District Six crown. He was elected to the Pennsylvania Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1990 and was inducted in June 1998 as a charter member of the Huntingdon County Sports Hall of Fame. He died on August 28, 1998, at the age of 84.
