A four-year letter winner in both sports, Lou Eckerl was a senior tri-captain and the Middle Atlantic Conference MVP in 1973 when Juniata went 10-2, played in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl and finished as NCAA Division III football runner-up. A running back, he was the team's leading rusher and scorer in the regular season and received the Engle Award as the most valuable back in 1973. He remains in the school's top 10 for single-season rushing yards (763 in 1973) and career rushing yards (1,431). He was also a stand out pitcher and outfielder in baseball, serving as captain his senior year. Currently athletic director and football coach at Calvert Hall College High School in Maryland, he also served as AD and baseball coach at Cardinal Gibbons where his 1982 diamond squad was ranked #1 in the state of Maryland earning him Coach of the Year honors.
