One of the most prolific scorers in Juniata basketball history, at the time of his induction John Smith ranked third in school history with 1,512 career points. He also ranks in the career top-10 in rebounding with his 642 boards leaving him in ninth place. He led the team in scoring each of his final three seasons, averaging more than 20 points per game in each year. He established a then single-game Juniata record with 46 points in a victory against Lycoming in his senior season, a year in which he ranked among the NCAA leaders in scoring. He holds three of the top-10 single-season point totals in Juniata history, with his career best of 460 points coming as a sophomore. He was selected to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Weekly All-Star Team during that campaign, and ended the year as a member of the ECAC All-East Division II All-Star squad. He captured first-team all-conference honors as a senior after earning second-squad all-conference laurels as a junior. He was twice selected as the team’s most valuable player.
