Stevens Scores Two Against Cardinals

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team battled hard but lost to visiting Catholic University, 11-5, Thursday evening at Gibbel Stadium.

Skyler Stevens led the way with two goals and an assist, while Kyndall Yeager had a goal and an assist with a ground ball and a draw control. Kelliann Drummond and Elayna Stubbe had one goal each. Caoilinn Heatley made nine saves in goal for Juniata.

The Eagles won the opening draw, as Peyton Goodrich scooped the ball up and raced towards Catholic's end of the field. She found Yeager, who passed it to a cutting Stevens, who ripped a shot past the Cardinal keeper to put Juniata up. Catholic responded with three goals in three minutes, before Stevens turned provider. She bounced a pass to Yeager, who beat the keeper low to bring JC back within one. Catholic scored two more, including one with under 10 seconds to go in the quarter, to make it 5-2.

Each team scored once in the second, with Stubbe's goal with just under four to go making it 6-3, which was the halftime scoreline.

Catholic scored all four goals in the third, and Juniata could only get the deficit back down to five in the fourth before a late Cardinal goal completed the scoring.

Catholic held a 12-6 advantage in draw controls and 28-13 shots.

Juniata will take on Lycoming next Wednesday at 5:00.
