Gibbs Reaches 200 Career Goals as Eagles Dominate Colonels

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team controlled throughout as they defeated Wilkes University, 20-6, on a windy Friday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.

Grace Gibbs tallied five goals, an assist, two ground balls, five draw controls, and a caused turnover. Kyndall Yeager provided five goals and an assist, while Peyton Goodrich totaled two goals, two assists, nine draw controls, a ground ball, and a caused turnover. Kelliann Drummond totaled two goals, three assists, and a ground ball, while Devyn Mauger added three goals and two draw controls off the bench. Skyler Stevens had a goal, five ground balls, and four caused turnovers, while Shannon Para and Elayna Stubbe each had a goal apiece. Tess Ledeboer had four draw controls, a ground ball, and a caused turnover, while Maeve Kuser had three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Less than a minute into the game, Yeager, with the ball at the top of the eight, spun and caused her defender to go left while she went right before she beat the keeper over the left shoulder to make it 1-0. Less than a minute later, Gibbs scooped up a loose ball, found Stubbe in front of the goal, and doubled the Juniata lead. Twenty-nine seconds later, Goodrich rolled left and hit a cutting Yeager, who beat the keeper low to make it 3-0. Gibbs and Goodrich tacked on two more a little over a minute apart to make it 5-0. A few minutes later, Stevens rolled from right to left before firing past the keeper 6-0. Drummond isolated on the right, scurried past her defender, and fired a bouncing shot past the goalie to make it 7-0. Goodrich won the ensuing draw and dished it to Drummond, who found Yeager on the right side of the goal and ripped a shot off the post that crashed into the net. The Colonels got one back before goals from Mauger and Gibbs made it 10-1 after one.

Drummond, Gibbs, Mauger, Goodrich, and Yeager scored goals in the second quarter to push the Eagles' lead to 15-1 at halftime.

The teams were even in the second half, as Juniata won the third 3-2 but the Colonels used a goal in the final seconds to win the fourth, 3-2.

Juniata will host Elizabethtown on Wednesday at 4:00.
