Women's Lacrosse Tops Hartford to Win ECAC Championship

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team dominated the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship against the University of Hartford, 16-4, Wednesday evening at Gibbel Stadium.

Grace Gibbs was named MVP of the game after tallying four goals, six ground balls, three draw controls, and six draw controls. Peyton Goodrich totaled four goals, three ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Kyndall Yeager had two goals, an assist, and a draw control, while Shannon Para and Kelliann Drummond added two goals apiece. Skyler Stevens tallied two goals and two ground balls, while Tess Ledeboer contributed an assist, a ground ball, a draw control, and two caused turnovers. Mikayla Bodley made one save in the first half, while Caoilinn Heatley made three saves in the second.

Stevens opened the scoring four minutes in on a free-position shot. The Hawks answered a minute and a half later with a free-position shot of their own. The Juniata attack was balanced, as three different people scored a goal: Drummond, Para, and Goodrich. JC led 4-1 after one.

The Eagles scored four more in the second quarter, with Gibbs scoring the first, Yeager and Goodrich each scored, while Juniata was a woman down. In the final fifty seconds, Drummond added another on a free position shot to make it 8-1.

Goals from Gibbs, Goodrich, Para, and Yeager made it 12-1 in the first nine minutes of the third quarter. Juniata never let the Hawks get closer than ten the rest of the game.

This is the first championship in program history, and the 15th win adds another to the winningest season in program history.
