MADISON, N.J.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team played in their first-ever Landmark Conference playoff game on the road and emerged victorious, 17-11, as they topped #4-seeded Drew University Tuesday afternoon.
Grace Gibbs led the way with a career-high and program-record 12 points (9g, 3a), three ground balls, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Kyndall Yeager totaled three goals, an assist, a ground ball, three draw controls, and a caused turnover. Peyton Goodrich tallied three goals, an assist, a ground ball, five draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Skyler Stevens had two assists, and Kelliann Drummond had a goal, an assist, two ground balls, and a draw control. Elayna Stubbe added a goal of her own. Mikayla Bodley made six saves in goal.
Drummond found Yeager for the game's opening goal a minute and a half in. The Rangers tied things up 22 seconds later. Gibbs scored twice, with Stevens assisting in the second one. Drummond scored off a Gibbs assist to push the lead to three. Drew scored twice around Goodrich's first goal, as JC led by two after one.
The Rangers tied things up with three straight goals in the first three minutes of the second quarter. The Eagles dominated the final 11 and half minutes, as Yeager scored twice, Gibbs scored three straight and found Goodrich for another. Juniata led 11-6 at the halftime break.
Juniata protected their lead in the second half as they never let the Rangers get closer than four goals. Gibbs was a force as she scored twice in both the third and fourth quarters.
The win also pushes the Eagles to the most wins in a season in program history.
They will travel on Thursday to play at the University of Scranton at 4:00 in the semifinals.
