A setter/hitter for the Juniata College women's volleyball team, Claudia Tweardy Serfass was a standout performer during the program's early years as a varsity sport. The two-year team captain (1981 and 1982) earned Middle Atlantic Conference honors in 1980, 1981, and 1982 and helped lead the College Hill squad to its first-ever conference championship in 1981. She was an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III First-Team All-American in 1982 when she set a Juniata record with 145 service aces, a record that still stood at the time of her induction into the Hall of Fame. She also led the unit in digs in 1982 and in both aces and assists in 1981. Her 1982 service ace total was still the sixth-best single-season effort on the small college scene through the 1998 season. To go along with her all-American laurels in 1982, the Spring Grove High School graduate was tabbed as the team's most valuable player and as a member of the NCAA Division III all-tournament team. Juniata recorded a 137-27 mark during her four years and appeared in the NCAA Division III playoffs for the first time in 1981.
