One of the most outstanding defensive backs in the history of Juniata College, the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) and the NCAA Division III ranks, Mark Dorner was a starter at free safety for four seasons (1984-87). He was a team captain in 1987 and that same year earned Associated Press Little All-America and Kodak All-America College Division honors. He still holds the NCAA all-division record for interceptions in a season (15), and the Division III record of 1.5 interceptions per game, marks that he established in 1987. He was tabbed as an MAC first-team all-star in 1986 and 1987 and was selected as the conference most valuable player as a senior. In addition, he was the recipient of Juniata's Dr. J. Harold Engle '23 most valuable back award in 1987. At the time of his induction, he was the leader in career interceptions on College Hill (26) and paced the unit in picks in 1984 (4), 1986 (5) and 1987 (15). The Bedford High School graduate was named the McDonald's/Juniata College Athlete of the Month and MAC Player of the Week numerous times. His football talents earned him a try out with the New England Patriots following his senior season.
