An administrator at Juniata College from 1946 until 1966, Bill Engel was the public relations director on College Hill during football's "Glory Years." He covered Juniata athletics during that time, including the football team's trip to the Tangerine Bowl at the end of the 1955 season, and wrote the J-Club Newsletter. He started work on the original Juniata College Sports Hall of Fame project in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In addition, he was an announcer on WHUN-AM radio for Juniata football games and served as the public address announcer for Juniata baseball teams. To go along with his public relations duties at the College, he worked as a stringer for the Associated Press and also wrote stories for the Huntingdon Daily News and Juniata Hall of Fame charter member Mailand McIlroy, who was the sports editor at the time. He also served as the registrar at Juniata for eight years, as the faculty secretary, and established and taught the first journalism course at Juniata. The 1936 graduate of Sewickley High School left his position in 1966 to become a development officer at Penn State University, a position he held until 1984.
