A four-time Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) pole vault champion, Robert Zimmerman left his mark on the Juniata College track and field program in the early 1970s. As a freshman, he cleared 13-6 to win the conference crown, while in 1972 he got over 13-9 to earn his second straight title. The streak continued his junior season when he set a school record that still stood at the time of his induction with an effort of 14-8 3/4 to take the conference's gold medal. In 1974, he posted a leap of 14-3 to earn in the MAC title to become the only Juniata athlete to accomplish placing first in a conference championship event for four consecutive seasons. He established the MAC indoor pole vault standard in the winter of his senior season with a 13-7 effort (a record that has since been broken). His 1973 vault still ranked fifth in MAC history through the 1999 campaign. In addition to all of his accomplishments on College Hill, he went on to train with future Olympians Bruce Jenner and Brian Oldfield during his post-Juniata athletic career.
