He also finished sixth in the 1969 MAC championship meet.

On the track, Denny regularly captured the mile and two mile races for Juniata. He graduated holding the both the indoor (4:20.5) and outdoor (4:22.1) Juniata records in the mile; he also shaved over five seconds off the previous mark in a new school record time of 9:34.8 in the two mile race – a record that stood for three years. He placed second in the mile at the 1972 MAC Track and Field Championships, and won the mile at the 1972 MAC Indoor championship in a meet record time of 4:21.7.

Denny continued to run competitively after graduation, placing 14th at the 1974 United States Track and Field Federation Open Marathon with a time of 2:48, and completing the 1975 Boston Marathon in two hours and 44 minutes.
