HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's lacrosse team opened their season against St. Mary's College of Maryland in wintery conditions and were on the wrong side of a 14-3 scoreline, Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.
Liam Walsh tallied two goals and an assist with three ground balls while Andy Chirillo added a goal. Charlie Newman had three caused turnovers and a ground ball. Reuben Stoll had two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Ryan Madison made 21 saves in goal, while Griffin Umstead made four saves of his own.
The Seahawks scored the first seven goals of the game across the first and second quarters before Walsh put the Eagles on the board.
After halftime, the Seahawks tacked on another five before Walsh turned provider as he found Chirillo for the second goal of the game for JC. St. Mary's added one more before the quarter ended with the score 13-2.
The Seahawks scored a little under six minutes into the fourth quarter. Later, Walsh scored the final goal of the game inside the final two minutes to complete the scoreline.
Juniata returns to action on February 22nd at Alvernia at 1:00.
