WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team battled back but ultimately lost in overtime at Lycoming, 9-8, on a blustery afternoon at UPMC Field.
Peyton Goodrich (Reading, Pa. / Berks Catholic) had three goals, an assist, four groundballs, six draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Shayla Lapp (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) tallied two goals, a ground ball, and four draw controls, while Talia Bertrando (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) had a goal, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Shannon Para (Alexandria, Va. / West Potomac) scored once, while Kelliann Drummond (Alexandria, Va. / West Potomac) added a goal and caused turnover. Chloe Gerhard (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) tallied 11 saves in goal for the Eagles.
The Warriors scored the first three goals of the game before Goodrich got the Eagles on the board just inside four minutes to go in the first quarter.
Goodrich, Drummond, and Bertrando scored in the first three minutes of the second to put the Eagles ahead. A Warrior goal rooted things before two Lapp goals in the final six minutes had Juniata up by two at the half.
The hosts scored the opening three goals of the third to retake the lead. Para scored her lone goal of the game late in the third to make it 7-7, and 34 seconds later, Goodrich scored on a free position shot as JC led by one heading into the final quarter.
The Warriors found a tying goal with just under four to play, which sent the game into overtime. Lycoming scored 42 seconds while a person up as the Eagles were penalized with a yellow card early in the overtime period.
Juniata had a 14-8 edge in draw controls and a 35-29 advantage in shots.
Women's lacrosse closes the regular season on the road at Scranton at 1:00.
