Eagles Cruise to Victory in Home Opener

Eagles Cruise to Victory in Home Opener

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Juniata's women's lacrosse team turned in a strong performance in their home opener on Saturday afternoon, beating Washington & Jefferson by a final score of 16-7 while out-shooting their opponents by more than 30.

It took some time for the Eagles' offense to make their offensive dominance pay, only putting in two goals on nine shots in the first period.

Washington & Jefferson responded with their first goal late in the period despite only having two shots. The floodgates opened in the second period, with the Eagles scoring five times. Grace Gibbs (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) paced Juniata's offense throughout the game, scoring once in each period to finish with four goals while also leading the team with six ground ball pickups and six caused turnovers. Freshman Peyton Goodrich (Reading, Pa. / Berks Catholic) added three goals of her own, along with two caused turnovers and a ground ball pickup.

Talia Bertrando (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick), Shannon Para (Alexandria, Va. / West Potomac), Kyndall Yeager (Westminister, Md. / South Carroll) added two goals apiece, while Kelliann Drummond (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) led the team with two assists in the game. Shayla Lapp (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg), Michaela Naccarini (Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill) and Isabella Michener (Randolph, N.J. / Randolph) each added a goal of their own for the Eagles.

Goalie Chloe Gerhard (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) got her first win of the season in simple fashion, needing only two saves.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, March 8th, hosting Marian University at 4:00 PM.
