Wolff and Bortak earn AVCA All-America honors in men’s volleyball

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College men's volleyball senior Ben Wolff (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and freshman Joe Bortak (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America teams, unveiled Monday.

Wolff was a First Team All-America selection, while Bortak was named to the Second Team. They become the 20th and 21st All-Americans in Juniata men's volleyball history, and bring Juniata's total number of All-Americans to 118.

Wolff finished the season with team leading totals of 2.57 kills/set and 1.10 blocks/set. He is currently leading all of Division III with his .508 hitting percentage, recording 280 kills on 480 swings with only 36 attack errors. Wolff tallied 120 blocks over the course of the season, including 26 block solos, and served up 13 aces. He also ranked eighth in Division III in blocks per set.

Bortak, the Continental Volleyball Conference's Freshman of the Year, was third on the team with 2.30 kills/set and posted a team-leading 122 blocks – an average of 0.88 blocks/set. His 318 total kills was a team high for Juniata, and his .492 hitting percentage ranks him second in Division III this season. Bortak ranks 26th among Division III leaders in blocks per set.

Juniata finished its 2012 season with a 28-11 record, winning the CVC East Division with a perfect 8-0 mark and reaching the semifinals of the CVC Tournament. The Eagles were the number one seed for the ECAC Division III South Region Men's Volleyball Tournament, but fell to Medaille College in the championship game.
