ARLINGTON, Va.- The #5 Juniata men's volleyball team completed Continental Volleyball Conference play with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-19) victory over Marymount Wednesday evening.
Tyler Phillips totaled 10 kills (.333) with three aces and four digs, while Luke Hoffman tallied eight kills (.545) with three aces, two blocks, and a dig. Juan Armando amassed 10 kills (.467) with three assists and two digs, and with his fifth kill of the match, he reached 1000 career kills. Grant Lorelli added 15 assists, four kills, and three blocks, while Will Sierer contributed 14 assists and an ace.
In set one, with the score at 14-14 midway through, the Eagles embarked on a 7-1 run that featured two kills from both Hoffman and Armando. JC eventually took set one on a Dante Palombo kill.
Set two saw the Eagles get going sooner, trailing by one 4-5. A 10-0 run from Juniata, capped by an attack error from the Saints, made it 14-5. The Eagles cruised the rest of the way, winning on a service error. Early in the set, Armando tallied his fifth kill of the match, also his 1000th career kill.
The Saints hung around in the third, with the Eagle lead at two, 14-12. Kills from Phillips and Armando and a block by Lorelli and Hoffman pushed the lead to 18-13. The Saints closed to within four again, 22-18, before a final push from the Eagles saw them reach set point on an Armando kill 24-18. JC took the match on a service error by the Saints.
Juniata wraps up regular season play this weekend at SUNY New Paltz. They will play Baruch at 1:00 before facing New Paltz at 3:00.
