Bortak named CVC Freshman of the Year

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College men's volleyball freshman Joe Bortak (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) has been named the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Freshman of the Year, according to voting conducted among the league's head coaches. 

Bortak, a middle hitter, is averaging 2.35 kills/set this season, with a .488 hitting percentage that is ranked second among Division III statistical leaders. He has 117 blocks this season, an average of 0.90 per set, and good enough to be ranked 26th in Division III.

This season, Bortak has registered a team-leading 379.0 points.

Juniata (27-10) will compete in this Saturday's ECAC Division III South Region Men's Volleyball Tournament, hosted by Stevenson University in Stevenson, Md. The top-seeded Eagles will face Elmira College in a semifinal match starting at 1:00 p.m.
