HUNTINGDON, Pa - Juniata faced a tough challenge on Sunday, falling 14-2 in a conference matchup with Catholic University of America. Despite battling throughout the game, Juniata was unable to keep pace with the opposition's high-powered offense.
The visitors struck early, scoring twice in the first inning and adding two more in the second to take a 4-0 lead. Juniata responded in the bottom of the second when Connor Meisner delivered an RBI double, bringing home Jace Irvin to put the team on the board.
The game slipped away in the fourth, as the opposing offense broke out for eight runs, taking advantage of timely hitting and defensive miscues. Meisner came through again in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single, scoring Joey Woodrow for Juniata's second and final run of the game.
Juniata's offense was limited to three hits, with Meisner leading the way by driving in both runs. On the mound, Derek Gehr took the loss, while a combination of pitchers worked to slow down the opposing lineup.
Juniata will look to regroup and get back in the win column as they continue their conference schedule on the road at Susquehanna on Wednesday.
