Paxton Scores 80th Minute Winner as Eagles Top Golden Wolves

Huntingdon, Pa.- The Juniata women's soccer team won 2-1 against visiting Alvernia University Wednesday evening at Gibbel Stadium.

Amelia Yordy and Haydn Paxton each scored for the Eagles, while Savanna Murray and Sydney Simpson each had an assist. Julia Lane made three saves to get the win in goal. She entered in the second half after Sarah Betts made one save in her 45-minute shift in the first half.

Two minutes into the game, The Golden Wolves got to a loose ball following a corner kick and poked a ball from six yards out into the net to put Juniata in an early 1-0 hole.

The best Juniata chance of the first half came in the final minutes, as Alyssa Bui played the ball to Naomi Rich on the right wing, who dribbled down before crossing the ball low. Bui ran onto the ball and fired first time, but the keeper stopped it.

Three minutes into the second half, Murray flicked a ball on with her head that Yordy ran onto just outside the box. She took a touch before beating the keeper to the right to tie things at 1-1.

Juniata looked like they might find a winner, and in the 80th minute, they did. Murray played in a ball off a free kick from the right wing. Simpson headed the ball back across the goal mouth, and Paxton nodded it in to give Juniata the lead. It's Paxton's first career goal as an Eagle.

The Eagles held on to get the victory, and push their winning streak to three.

The Golden Wolves held a 13-12 edge in shots while the teams were tied at four corners apiece.

Juniata returns to action at home on Saturday as they take on Washington and Jefferson at 1:00.
