Fleisher, Rodriguez Help Eagles Earn Late Draw in Season Opener at Geneva

Beaver Falls, Pa.- The Juniata women's soccer team opened the year with a 2-2 draw at Geneva College Friday afternoon at the Merriman Athletic Complex.

In the 15th minute, the Golden Tornados' forward took a shot that ricocheted off an Eagle defender and flew into the top right corner as JC trailed 1-0 early.

Savanna Murray and Aleya Eisenberg had shots saved in the next five minutes as JC quickly looked for an equalizer. Murray fired another low shot in the 32nd minute that the Geneva keeper saved.

Juniata trailed 1-0 at the half.

The Eagles opened the second half in spectacular fashion. A five-pass sequence for Juniata culminated in Murray laying the ball off to Mady Fleisher. She smashed the ball past the keeper for her first career goal, making it 1-1.

Five minutes later, a long ball from the left wing bounced into the Eagle box. A Golden Tornado was first to the ball, cut inside, and fired low into the net to give the hosts the lead back.

In the game's final five minutes, a loose ball came to Olivia Rodriguez outside the box. She smashed the ball into the top right side of the net for her first goal in the blue and gold, which left the Geneva goalie unable to react to the dipping shot.

Neither team managed a shot in the final five minutes.

Juniata outshot their hosts 15-8 and had a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal. JC also had five corners to the Golden Tornado's zero.

Juniata returns to action tomorrow at 3:30 at Westminster.
