Royals Reign Over Eagles

SCRANTON, Pa. - The Juniata women's soccer team was defeated 3-0 by Scranton Saturday evening to conclude the 2022 season.

Scranton started the match with three shots and one on target in the first ten minutes, with another shot on target in the 22nd minute saved by Cati Besch.

The first goal from the Royals came in the 23rd minute off a corner kick, as a Scranton player sprinted from the edge of the box to lose the Eagles player marking them, firing a free header into the goal from the far post.

Following the goal, the Royals shot five more times with two on target for a 1-0 advantage through 45.

It took only two minutes to double the Scranton lead as they found a goal off a set piece for the second time. A ball on the ground met an unmarked Scranton player on the edge of the six-yard box, who flicked it to a player on the penalty spot to convert it into the bottom-left corner.

Scranton added another goal in the 50th minute on a long-range shot from 30 yards out on the edge of the half-circle into the top-left corner.

The Royals fired seven shots in the rest of the second half, but they ended the game with a 3-0 victory as they focus on the Landmark Conference playoffs next week.

Scranton ended the day with 23 shots and ten on target, while the Eagles ended the match with zero shots generated.
