Warriors Top Eagles Via Late Goal

Warriors Top Eagles Via Late Goal

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's soccer team pulled even midway through the second half but ultimately came up on the wrong end of a 2-1 decision to visiting Lycoming on a windy Wednesday evening at Gibbel Stadium.

It was a busy first half for Cati Besch as she faced eight shots and made some fantastic saves to keep the game 0-0. The Warrior's goal in the 37th minute came after the ball deflected off one Lycoming player in front of goal, and another slotted the ball in from the left side of the goal into the far corner. The Eagles looked dangerous in the first half as they looked to counter down the left channel. Several through balls were narrowly completed, but the visitor's keeper managed to snuff out the danger each time.

Juniata started to take control of the match in the second half as they saw more of the ball and kept in the Warrior's half of the field.

In the 62nd minute, Ashley McWilliams took a pass from Colleen O'Brien and dribbled down the left side before poking a ball through the defense. Alyssa Bui ran onto it, took a touch before firing a shot with her left that the keeper got a hand to but couldn't keep out of the goal as JC tied things at one.

In the 81st minute, the Eagles nearly found a winner through Helen Chavez, who had a shot bounce off the right post.

Two minutes later, a Lycoming winger played a ball across the box from the left side of the field; their forward poked it past a diving Avery Zales to make it 2-1.

Juniata couldn't find another equalizer in the final seven minutes.

The Eagles will wrap up the regular season on the road at the University of Scranton this Saturday at 4:00.
