SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- A hard fought Landmark Conference battle under the lights between Juniata women's soccer and the Crusaders of Susquehanna University ended in a double overtime 1-1 tie at Sassafras Field Wednesday night.
Not only did the game go into double overtime, but a lightning delay was called in the 38th minute, followed by a 50-minute weather interruption around the 60th minute mark.
The Eagles struck first in the 15th minute when freshman midfielder Lauren Liacouras (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) fought her way up the right sideline and crossed to sophomore Paula Pryor (Westbrookville, N.Y./Burke Catholic) who took just one touch before she put it away for her third mark of the season.
Susquehanna's sophomore forward and top offensive threat Marissa DeParto equalized for the Crusaders in the 22nd minute unassisted. However, DeParto would be held to just that goal as Juniata's sophomore Alicia Snyder (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) saw to it that for the remainder of the contest Departo was not given another scoring opportunity.
Juniata (4-8-2, 0-3-1 LC) outshot the Crusaders 11-10 and held a 6-5 corner kick advantage over Susquehanna (7-5-2, 2-2-1 LC).
Junior Gabriella Ricciardi (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) protected the Eagles net for all 110 minutes of play and charted five saves. In the Susquehanna net for the match's entirety was sophomore Rachel Norbuts who posted four saves.
Juniata hosts Drew University for its third Landmark Conference battle in a row on Saturday, Oct. 22 for a 3:30 p.m. game.
