MADISON, N.J.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team suffered a 19-9 setback on the road at Drew, Saturday afternoon.
Grace Gibbs (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck HS) scored six goals to go with four ground balls, a draw control, and four caused turnovers, Taylor Metz (Oaklyn, N.J. / Paul VI H.S.) scored once in addition to a ground ball and four draw controls while Fiona McDonald (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) tallied one goal, one ground ball, and one caused turnover. Talia Bertrando (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) added one goal. Zoe Watson (Felton, Pa. / Redline, Pa.) made 11 saves in goal for JC, while Chloe Gerhard (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus H.S.) had eight.
Gibbs got the Eagles off to a good start, scoring an unassisted goal 43 seconds into the game. It was all Rangers from there as they scored nine unanswered goals over the next 24 minutes before Bertrando and McDonald scored within a little over a minute of each other to make it 10-3. The hosts tacked on two more before Gibbs scored two goals in the final minute and thirty seconds, with Paige Riker (Sussex, N.J. / Vernon Township) assisting the second goal as the Eagles trailed 12-5 in the first half.
The teams traded goals over the first 17 minutes of the second half, with Gibbs third goal of the half making it 15-9, but the Rangers scored the final four goals of the game to seal the win.
Juniata will travel to Susquehanna, Wednesday at 4:00.
