#16 Cardinals Rise Above Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team lost to visiting #16 Catholic University, 74-48, Wednesday afternoon inside Memorial Gymnasium. 

Haily Sherman tallied 14 points, five rebounds, an assist, and a steal, while Emma Coolidge provided 11 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal off the bench. Bri Bodtorf totaled six points, six rebounds, an assist, a steal and two blocks. Sarah Betts contributed four points, four rebounds and an assist. Emily McCann chipped in with five points, two rebounds and four assists. 

The Cardinals exploded out of the gates with a 16-2 run that left the Eagles staggered. A three, a jumper and a layup from Sherman sparked some life into JC as they trailed by 10, 19-9, with just over a minute to go. Betts added a three of her own off a Coolidge assist, before the Cardinals ended the quarter with a three of their own as they led 22-12 after one. 

The second quarter was a defensive one, as the Cardinals put up 11 to Juniata's five, as the Eagles trailed by 16 at the break. 

Catholic University won the second half, 41-31, as they pulled away. 

The Cardinals outrebounded Juniata 48-32 and scored 12 points in transition to Juniata's two. JC had an advantage in bench points, 21 to Catholic's 14. 

Juniata returns action at home against Goucher College Saturday at 2:00 PM. They will honor their seniors prior to the start of the game.
