Game 1: Rowan 6, Juniata 0
CLERMONT, Fla. – Juniata College struggled offensively in their opening game of the doubleheader, falling 6-0 to Rowan on Wednesday afternoon.
Rowan took control early, scoring a run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly, which brought home a runner for a 1-0 lead. The game broke open in the third inning when Rowan added five more runs.
Juniata's offense had a tough time getting going against Rowan's ace, Emily McCutcheon, who threw a complete game shutout. McCutcheon allowed just 3 hits while striking out 2, keeping Juniata off the board.
Morgan Brumbaugh went 1-for-2, the only Eagle with a hit in the game. Juniata pitching struggled against the Rowan attack, with Isabella Countryman (0-1) taking the loss after giving up 1 earned run in 1 inning.
Game 2: Juniata 7, Edgewood 2
In the second game of the doubleheader, Juniata rallied from an early deficit to claim a 7-2 victory over Edgewood.
Edgewood jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. However, Juniata responded in the fourth inning. Skyler Howlett singled to center, scoring Kay Magill to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Eagles took the lead in the fifth inning. Dani Berlin reached on an error, allowing Reagan Goldsmith to score. Claire Thomas then singled, driving in Douglass to make it 3-2.
In the sixth, Howlett stole home to extend the lead to 4-2. Juniata added three more runs in the seventh. Jessie Hunt's single drove in Eva Johnson, and a sacrifice fly from Magill brought in Claire Thomas. Howlett capped off the scoring with an RBI single to bring in Morgan Brumbaugh, making it 7-2.
Skyler Howlett went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Claire Thomas had a standout game, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Juniata's pitching was solid, with Maryn Swank (1-3) earning the win in relief after 2.1 scoreless innings.
Juniata will continue their spring break trip with a matchup against Montclair State on March 15th at 9:00 AM.
