WINCHESTER, VA- The Juniata women's softball team had their opening double header on the road at Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon. Juniata lost the 1st game 5-0, and lost the 2nd game 3-2.
In the 1st leg of the doubleheader, Juniata had Maryn Swank on the mound. Swank went a full 6 innings giving up five earned runs and 5 strikeouts.
Morgan Burmbaugh had Juniata's lone two hits of the ballgame.
Game two was a much closer matchup with Juniata leading until the bottom of the 5th inning. Rylea Lynch gave the Eagles a solid three innings with 1 earned run and two hits along with two strikeouts.
In the batters box, Brumbaugh added in another hit on the day along with two walks. Claire Thomas contributed two hits and scored a run for Juniata.
A tied game in the bottom of the 7th led to a Hornets double putting one runner in scoring position. A bunt moved the runner over to third and a sacrifice fly brought the runner in to secure a win for Shenandoah.
Juniata will have their home opener on Thursday, March 6th at 3 PM .
