Men's Volleyball Wins Eighth Straight Match

Joe Fick
Joe Fick tallied 12 kills (.524) to go with a service ace, two assists and six digs in the sweep at Randolph Macon.

ASHLAND, Va.-The Juniata men's volleyball team has won eight straight after their 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-20), win at Randolph Macon, Saturday afternoon at Crenshaw Gym.

Set one saw the Yellow Jackets lead early before the Eagles moved ahead, 11-10, on back to back Joe Fick (Venetia, Pa. / Peters Township) kills. Juniata nursed a small lead for a while, with Randolph Macon pulling within two at 18-16. Kills from Kevin Duffy (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle HS) and Fick paired with a Yellow Jacket attack error had JC up 21-16. The Eagles cruised from there, winning 25-18 on a bad set.

The second set saw the Eagles jump out ahead 13-8 and later push the advantage further at 16-10 as they had control throughout. Randolph-Macon closed within four, 16-12 before two kills from Fick along with one apiece from Quinn Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev. / Shadow Ridge) and David Hibner (Burke, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary) had Juniata up eight. Two Hibner kills, two Yellow Jacket attack errors and Fick kill had the Eagles at set point, 24-15. The hosts scored four straight before Fick ended set two with another kill, 25-19.

The final set followed a similar script as JC soared ahead 16-8, but this time the Yellow Jackets managed to close the gap some, getting within three at 21-18. Following an Eagle timeout, the teams traded points before two straight kills from Duffy and Austin Goodsel (Corry, Pa. / Fort Leboeuf HS) had Juniata at match point. Randolph took the next one via kill before Sean Cavanagh (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley) ended the match with his own kill.

The Eagles are now 18-4, 8-2 in the CVC.

They return home for their final home match of the year against Charleston (W.V.), Wednesday at 7:00.
