Henry's Late Strike Crowns Eagles as the 2025 ECAC Champions

NEWARK, N.J.- The Juniata men's soccer team earned their second consecutive Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship as they won, 2-1, Sunday afternoon against Rutgers-Newark.

Tre Henry had a goal and an assist; Jayden Gaynor had one goal, while Nick Mattioni added an assist. Maxwell Mattioni added three saves in goal for the Eagles.

The first half was scoreless, but both teams had opportunities, with the Scarlet Raiders taking five shots to the Eagles' three.

Gaynor opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, as Mattoni played the ball up to Henry, who crossed the ball from the right side to Gaynor, and he tapped it home.

Fifteen minutes later, the hosts found an equalizer through a shot from 12 yards out that deflected off an Eagle and into the net.

Juniata would not be denied and found a winner in the 84th minute. Ryan Angelone played in a ball off a restart from the left side from about 26 yards out. Henry was first to the ball and headed it towards goal. The Rutgers Newark keeper parried the ball, but Henry slotted in the rebound to put the Eagles back on top.

JC saw off the game to clinch their second ECAC Championship in program history.

Rutgers Newark had a 13-8 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corners.

Gavin Rauhut was named the 2025 ECAC Men's Soccer Championship MVP and was joined on the all-tournament team by Gaynor, Henry, M. Mattioni, and Nathan Weick

Juniata finishes the season 10-5-7 and, for the second straight year, will head into the off-season as ECAC Champions.
