HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team made history as they defeated Drew University, 1-0, for the first time ever in program history Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium on Homecoming.
Shawn Tanaka scored the game's only goal, with Harshaan Grewal providing the assist. Maxwell Mattioni made three saves in goal for the Eagles.
In the sixth minute, Grewal lobbed a ball from his own half over the defense to Tanaka, who ran onto the ball and controlled it with his chest before volleying it into the bottom left corner.
The Eagles controlled the first half as they outshot the Rangers 8-1 in the first half.
Drew made some changes to create some chances in the second half, outshooting the Eagles 5-2, but Mattioni was up to the task to help Juniata get the win.
This is the first time since 2016 Juniata opened Landmark Conference play with a victory.
The Eagles will host Goucher, next Saturday at 3:30.
