HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 match to visiting Marymount, Tuesday evening at Gibbel Stadium.
Ty Mazzarella scored the goal for the Eagles, with Victor Vandenbroek providing the assist. Maxwell Mattioni made three saves in goal for Juniata.
Six and half minutes in, Shawn Tanaka played a ball from the right wing that Jayden Gaynor lept and headed just wide of the left post.
Two minutes later, Gaynor played a ball from the left wing that just got past the outstretched leg of a Saint defender and found Jalen Holliday in the box. Holliday's shot flew to the left of the goal as the Eagles kept the pressure up.
Twenty minutes later, against the run of play, Marymount drew a foul just outside the Eagle 18. Their forward curved the ensuing free kick into the bottom left corner to give the visitors a lead.
Eight minutes later, Juniata found an equalizer. Vandenbroek played in a free kick from about 40 yards out near the Marymount bench. His cross found Mazzarella who headed it into the far corner to make it one all.
Vandenbroek's free kick 40 yards out near the Marymount box plays a ball in that Mazzarella headed in to tie things at one.
The teams remained tied as the horn sounded for halftime. Juniata held an 8-3 advantage in shots and a 6-0 edge in corners.
In the 69th minute, a quick one two by a Marymount midfielder saw him receive the ball back on the left side of the Eagle goal where he poked the ball into right side of the net.
A header from the 18 by Aidan Carlisle was the Eagle's best shot in the final 20 minutes, as it flew just right of the goal.
Juniata returns to action this Saturday on the road at Mount Aloysius at 7:00 pm.
