Eagles Edge Monarchs

Eagles Edge Monarchs

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team struck twice in the first half as they defeated visiting King's College, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.

Seven and a half minutes into the game, Emmet Young stepped up to take a free kick from just outside the 18. He shot on the ground, to the right of the wall, and beat the keeper to the bottom right corner to give Juniata an early lead.

In the 37th minute, Ian Edwards rose above everyone to head home a corner from Brandon Marzula.

Juniata outshot the Monarchs 6-0 in the first half as they completely dominated the first half.

The second half was a much more even affair, with each team managing seven shots. In the 78th minute, the Monarchs scored on a long free kick to halve the Eagle advantage.

In the 85th minute, Juniata created a great chance when Edwards launched a ball in via a long throw. Blake Cassel nodded the ball across to Young, who smashed a shot just to the right of the goal.

Axel Grater was called upon for the final time in the 88th minute, as he made his second save of the match.

Juniata held a 7-5 edge in corners and a 13-7 advantage in shots.

Prior to kickoff, the Eagles recognized members of the 1992 team, which was the first team ever to have a winning season in program history.

Juniata returns to action this Tuesday against Hood. Kickoff is at 7:30.
