Eagles Rally Comes Up Short Against Scranton on Senior Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team closed the regular season dropping a tough 2-1 decision against Scranton, Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.

Seven minutes in, Jarrod Gibson (Abington, Pa. / Abington) cut inside from the right-wing and left the ball for Blake Cassel (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin) who ripped a shot wide right of the net.

In the 16th minute, Wyatt Page (King of Prussia, Pa. / Shipley) went on a mazy run from the left-wing as he danced between several Royal defenders before launching a shot towards goal, but it drifted wide to the left.

In the 25th minute, Scranton broke through as their forward fired a shot from close range into the back of the net.

The score stayed at 1-0 heading into halftime.

Fourteen minutes into the second half, Scranton doubled their lead. Andrew Yeich (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area) did well to parry the first shot, but the Royal player tapped in the loose ball to double their lead.

In the 63rd minute, Page cut the ball in from the right end line and drew a foul in the box. Bass Diakhoumpa (Dakar, Senegal / Mercersburg Academy) sent the goalkeeper the wrong way as he fired the ball into the right side of the net.

The Eagles pressed the rest of the way but couldn't find an equalizer.

Juniata finishes the year 7-10-1, their most wins since 2013.
