Juniata Takes Tournament With 81-61 Win Over Farmingdale State

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Senior Alex Raymond (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area) scored his 1,000th career point in Juniata men's basketball's 81-61 win over Farmingdale State Saturday afternoon in the championship of the Doc Greene Tournament.  Raymond finished with a game-high 22 points after hitting four 3-pointers and going 6-for-7 from the free throw line as the Eagles improve to 7-2.

"I couldn't be happier for somebody," Head Coach Greg Curley said of Raymond's accomplishment.  "He wants nothing more than this team to win.  He is a great kid and a great teammate.  We tried to honor him with the ball and he said he didn't want to, he wanted to go and win the game so that speaks of him."

Raymond was named to the all-tournament team for his effort over the weekend while fellow Eagle Kevin Stapleton (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) was named the tournament MVP.

The junior scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in the win.  Junior Brian Scholly (State College, Pa./State College) also finished in double-digits with 16 points and had five assists.

The Eagles cleared their bench for the second game in-a-row, giving valuable minutes to its reserves, who put up 16 points.

"It's nice anytime you can get everybody in on a weekend like this," said Curley.  "A lot of family, a lot of folks in town, it's great.  It helps us build depth.  We are going to need them for the year and they have got to continue to be ready to go."

Ryan Davis led the Rams with 25 points.  Farmingdale State fell to 4-3 with the loss.

Juniata hits the road for the remainder of 2012.  The Eagles face-off against Saint Vincent on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 12 p.m. before heading to the St. Johns Fisher Holiday Tournament Dec. 29-30.  Juniata defeated Saint Vincent 69-55 when they met last year.
