Juniata Falls to Moravian, 11-3
Huntingdon, Pa. – Despite a late push, Juniata couldn't keep pace with Moravian's offense, falling 11-3 on Sunday afternoon at Langdon Goodale Field. The Eagles managed seven hits but struggled to contain a steady offensive attack from the Greyhounds.
Moravian took control early, scoring in the first and second innings before adding two more runs in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. The Greyhounds continued to build momentum, tacking on runs in the sixth before breaking the game open with a five-run seventh inning.
Juniata finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth when Jace Irvin delivered an RBI double down the left-field line, bringing home Jacob Despot. Moments later, David Beard lifted a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Connor Blough to score and cutting the deficit to 6-2.
The Eagles' bullpen tried to hold off Moravian's offense, but a big seventh inning by Moravian put the game out of reach. Tyler Mack added a late RBI in the ninth, drawing a bases-loaded walk to bring home Matthew Quigley, but it wasn't enough to spark a comeback.
Ethan Pfeffer led the Eagles' offense with a two-hit performance, while Irvin added a double and an RBI. Ricky Scott also chipped in with a pinch-hit single.
On the mound, Derek Gehr took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits over 3.2 innings while striking out three. Devon Coldren tossed 1.1 scoreless innings, and Landen Eichhorn, who held Moravian scoreless over the final 2.2 frames.
Juniata will look to regroup as they head to Lycoming for a conference matchup on Tuesday at 3:30.
