Baseball Falls to Catholic on Senior Day

Baseball Falls to Catholic on Senior Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team hung with the #22 Catholic University of America as the Cardinals used a four-run seventh to catapult past the Eagles, 7-3, Sunday afternoon on Senior Day at Langdon Goodale in the final game of the season.

Both pitchers cruised through the first two innings, giving up one hit each. Chase Alessandroni induced a double play to help get out of the second inning for the Eagles.

The Cardinals scored one in the top of the third, capitalizing on an Eagle error. In the bottom half of the inning, Dakotah Snyder reached on a two-out single down the right field line. Corey Daniels followed with a ground-rule double to bring Juniata back even at 1-1.

An RBI single in the fourth and a sac fly in the fifth put the Cardinals ahead, 3-1.

The Eagles got one back in the sixth; Michael Warren led off with a double that he crushed to straight-away center. Evan Mock followed with a bunt, and the throw to first was off the mark, allowing Warren to get home safely.

The Cardinals scored four runs on four hits in the top of the seventh, pushing their lead to 7-3, and those were the game's final runs.

Alessandroni tossed 6.0 innings while allowing six hits and two earned runs, with a walk and three strikeouts. Dominic Hoyle pitched a clean ninth for the Eagles and struck out two batters.

Snyder went 1-3 with a run scored, while Daniels had another excellent day at the plate, going 3-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Warren was 2-4 with a double, a triple, an RBI, and a run scored. Joey Woodrow went 2-4 with a double.

Juniata finishes the year at 10-30.
