Eagles Drop Pair to Royals to Open Weekend Series

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team dropped a pair of Landmark Conference games to the University of Scranton, 10-1 and 8-4, on a windy Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Langdon-Goodale Field.

The Royals jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the top of the first of game one as they scored three runs on three hits.

The teams traded zeros for the next three innings before a Royal RBI single up the middle made it 4-0 in the fifth.

Joey Woodrow lined a double to right-center in the bottom of the sixth to score Michael Warren.

Scranton scored three runs on one hit in the eighth and tacked on three more in the ninth to complete the scoring.

Woodrow was 2-3 with a walk, double, and an RBI, while Zachary Malone went six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

In game two, the Royals scored first, this time in the second, as they drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 1-0.

The Eagle offense got hot in the fourth, scoring four runs on five hits, including a solo homer by Warren to start the inning. Later, Charlie Bakken smacked a two-run double to left to score Woodrow and Corey Daniels. Dakotah Snyder drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 4-1.

The Royal generated three runs in the seventh to things at 4-4 and retook the lead in the eighth on a three-run home run to center.

They tacked on an insurance run in the ninth to complete the scoring.

Braelan Huber went four innings and allowed one run on two hits with five walks and six strikeouts.

Juniata will host Scranton tomorrow to complete the series. The first pitch is at noon.
