Eagles Fall to Red Devils

Eagles Fall to Red Devils

CARLISE, Pa.- Dickinson built out a 6-2 lead through three innings as they defeated the Juniata baseball team 11-4 on Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Warren had three of Juniata's seven hits on the day, going 3-for-4 with a double, stolen base, and two of Juniata's runs. Connor Meisner also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Joey Woodrow (1-for-4), Evan Mock, and Aaron Bollinger (1-for-2, 1 BB, 1 Sac Fly) also collected one RBI each.

Robbie Plizka got the start, making it through two innings with four unearned runs as the Juniata defense committed three errors during his service on the mound. The Eagles committed four total errors on the day.

Juniata went down in order at the top of the first and soon found trouble in the bottom half. The Red Devils opened with a single, but Pliszka quickly picked off the runner. Dickinson then got the bases loaded on a hit batter, infield error, and walk. Pliszka struck out the batter, but another infield error on the next play saw Dickinson score two more runs. They found the third on a single before a flyout ended the inning.

The Eagles again went down in order and gave up one more run in the second inning. With two runners on and one out, a Dickinson runner made it all the way from second on an infield fielder's choice to score. A groundout ended the inning.

Juniata found two runs in the third inning after opening the inning with back-to-back singles and a double play to put a runner on third base. Dakotah Snyder walked, then a throwing error on a ball to third scored Warren from third base and put runners on the corners. A single up the middle scored Snyder, then a strikeout ended the inning with Juniata down 4-2.

Dickinson found two more runs in the bottom of the third, opening the inning with a triple and single to score one run. The runner aboard via a single made use of two wild pitches to get to third base, and he was promptly cashed in with a single to right field. Juniata eventually escaped via a caught runner, fielder's choice, and flyout.

Connor Meiser was called out trying to make a double out of a ball to left with one out in the fourth inning, then Warren doubled to center to get a runner in scoring position with two outs. The Dickinson pitcher produced a groundout to escape the frame.

Bollinger walked to open the fifth inning, then stole second base with one out and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches, but he never made it home due to back-to-back Juniata strikeouts. Juniata then stranded a pair of runners in the bottom half.

An up-and-down sixth for Juniata was followed by a two-run Red Devils bottom half on a hit-batter, triple, wild pitch sequence with one out. Dickinson loaded the bases with two outs before Dominic Hoyle struck out the hitter to escape down 8-2.

Warren got to third base with one out via a single and stolen base in the seventh, then Bollinger hit the ball deep enough to center field to score him for an 8-3 scoreline. Unfortunately, Dickinson put their final three runs on the board in the seventh via three hits, a Juniata error, and a hit batter.

Juniata scored their final run in the eighth as a one-hit Meisner double scored David Beard from first. Hunter Tate then put down the Red Devils in order in the bottom of the eighth before Dickinson returned the favor in the top of the ninth.

Juniata returns to competition in 24 hours as they host Gettysburg at Langdon-Goodale Field at 3:30 pm.
