Eagles Down Owls, Go 7-1 in Florida

Eagles Down Owls, Go 7-1 in Florida

WINTER HAVEN, Fla.- The Juniata baseball team closed their trip to Florida with a 3-1 victory over Keene State, Saturday afternoon.

With two outs, Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa. / Northeastern) lined a single to center for a single and got to second on a wild pitch. Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa. / Mifflin County High School) was hit by a pitch and Roberto Barranca (York, Pa. / Calvert Hall (Md.) singled to left to put the Eagle up 1-0 as Kipp scored.

In the top of the second, Ryan McClain (Hughesville, Pa. / Hughesville) singled to left, and Joshua Gery (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottstown Senior High School) drove him in on a single to right. Evan Mock (Mcveytown, Pa. / Mifflin County) plated Gery with a single deep to left to make it 3-0 JC. In the bottom half of the second, Jack Dovidio (Glenmore, Pa. / Downingtown West) got in a bit of trouble as the first two owls reached on a single and a double, respectively. Dovidio got out of trouble as he struck out the next three batters, all looking.

The Owls got one back in the fourth, with an RBI-single to center, but Dovidio got the next batter to pop out to shortstop, which stranded runners at first and second.

Nevin Wood (Bellwood, Pa. / Bellwood-Antis) entered in the sixth and got in a bit of trouble as the bases loaded with two outs after he hit one batter and walked another, but he got the final out on a ground out to the third baseman.

Wood cruised the rest of the way to get the Eagles to their seventh victory.

Dovidio got the win for JC as he went five innings, allowing six hits, one run and struck out six.

Juniata now sits at 7-3, 7-1 in Florida, the best start and best record on spring break trip since the 2006 season.

The team now awaits to see if there will be more games to be played.

As of right now, Juniata and the rest of the Landmark Conference pan to provide an update by Wednesday, March 25th
