Eagles Clobber Chargers with 19 Runs Across Two Games

Eagles Clobber Chargers with 19 Runs Across Two Games

AUBURNDALE, Fl.- The Juniata baseball team won both games against Colby-Sawyer, 5-1 and 14-4, Sunday afternoon to kick off their spring break trip.

The Eagles got off to a quick start in game one, with Larry Corle (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central High School)mashing a double down the left-field line and Jake Swank (Portage, Pa. / Portage) followed with another double, this one to left which scored Corle as JC led 1-0 after one.

The pitchers matched zeros on the scoreboard over the next few innings. In the top of the fifth Drew Harshbarger (Mount Union, Pa. / Mount Union) got into some trouble as with runners at second and third with two outs, he hit the batter. He struck the next batter out, swinging to get out of the jam. In the bottom half of the inning, Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa. / Mifflin County High School) provided some run support as he bopped a two-run homer to left to make it 3-0.

The Chargers got on the board with an infield RBI single for their lone run of the game.

Dakotah Snyder (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg) lined a double to left, and two batters later scored on Ryan McClain's (Hughesville, Pa. / Hughesville) single to center. Corle doubled down the left-field line, and McClain would score on a passed ball to complete the scoring.

Harshbarger gave Juniata a strong start on the mound, tossing 5.0 innings while allowing one hit, two walks, and striking out seven.

Colby-Sawyer got on the board first in the bottom of the second as they walked in two runs and scored the other on an infield single to lead 3-0, but Juniata responded in a big way in the next half-inning.

Matt Innella (Commack, N.Y. / Commack) led off with a walk, and Corle's double put him at third. Swank followed with a two-run double to center. Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa. / Northeastern) singled to center to score Swank. Maclay and Michael Warren (New Berlin, Pa. / Mifflinburg Area) both reached on errors to load the bases, and Roberto Barranca's (York, Pa. / Calvert Hall) double sent two runs home with Warren stopping at third. Sam Craig (Mullica Hill, N.J. / Kingsway Regional) walk again to load the bases, and Snyder sent Warren home when he reached on a fielder's choice. Snyder stole second, and having batted around, Innella ripped a double to right to plate two more runs. Corle's single drove in the ninth run of the inning as the Eagles led by six.

Juniata cruised the rest of the way, tacking on one more run in the fourth on an RBI single by Barranca. In the fifth, Evan Mock (Mcveytown, Pa. / Mifflin County) hit an RBI-double to left-center, Kipp hit an RBI-single through the right side, and Maclay hit his second homer of the day, another two-run shot to left to make it 14-3.

The Chargers got one back in the bottom of the half to complete the scoring.

Juniata will take on Becker, tomorrow at 5:15.
