HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata baseball team split with Catholic today for the team's first win against the Cardinals since 2013. The Eagles took game one 9-0 but fell in game two 5-0.
Juniata's first run came in the second inning. Matt Innella (Commack, NY/Commack) doubled to left field, advanced to third, and ultimately scored on two wild pitches.
In the third, Chris Schreder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) walked and then stole second to get the inning going. Cameron Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./Blairsville) then walked with Schreder advancing to third off a stolen base. Devin McLaughin (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) doubled to center, bringing in both Schreder and Livingston to put the Eagles ahead 3-0.
The team came out swinging in the fourth, starting off with a single by Isaac Kline (Everett, Pa./Bedford) to right field. Innella and Kevin Starner (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) followed with a pair of singles for themselves, and Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) put down a sacrifice bunt to get Kline home. Livingston then singled to put Innella and Starner's runs on the board.
The Eagles led 6-0 going into the fifth where they scored another run off of Adam Kipp's (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) single and two errors by the Cardinals. In the sixth, Juniata sent in two more runs. Schreder walked and was advanced to third by Livingston's double to left field. McLaughlin singled to bring in both Schreder and Livingston's runs.
Drew Harshbarger (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) went the full seven innings, shutting out the Cardinals. Harshbarger struck out four, walked one, and gave up only three hits.
Livingston and Innella both went 2-for-3 in the game with McLaughlin going 3-for-4.
Juniata did not put up any runs in game two. Innella singled to the shortstop for the first hit of the game in the second inning, with the Eagle's next hit coming in the third with a double from Schreder. Livingston singled through the left side in the sixth in attempt to rally back, but the team fell short.
Kipp took the loss for the Eagles. He had two strike outs and gave up seven hits and four runs.
The team will be back at Langdon-Goodale field tomorrow at noon for the final game of the conference series.
