HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College senior Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) and junior Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) were named Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the week for their performances this past weekend.
Shaffer earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for winning the Messiah Invitational Heptathlon for the second year in a row, breaking Juniata’s record with 4,042 points. Her performance ranks her 18th in NCAA Division III, and she set personal bests in the high jump (5’ 5¼”), 200m dash (28.29), 800m (2:36.05), and javelin (77’ 9”). Her high jump mark currently stands as the ninth best in Division III for the 2012 outdoor season.
Parker took the Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for his Juniata record-breaking time of 3:56.38 at the Bucknell Classic. He took first on the all-time leader’s list in the 1500, beating out Nikolai Klena’s (Franklin, Pa./Oil City) 4:00.01 time, set at the 2010 Landmark Conference Championships.
Juniata men’s and women’s track and field travel to Moravian for the Moravian Greyhound Invitational on April 20, for a two-day meet.
