SCRANTON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team battled valiantly, but a cold spot in the third quarter was their downfall. They lost at the University of Scranton, 12-8, Saturday afternoon.
Peyton Goodrich led the way with four goals, two assists, five ground balls, and a caused turnover, while Grace Gibbs tallied three goals, two assists, two ground balls, six draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Skyler Stevens added a goal, Lauren Metzger had five ground balls, and Megan McConnell had two caused turnovers. Mikayla Bodley made seven saves in goal.
Goodrich scored the first goal of the game on a free position a little over a minute into the game. The Royals answered a minute and a half later. The teams traded goals, two apiece, the rest of the way, with Gibbs scoring her first and Goodrich adding a second.
The Royals struck first in the second, with Stevens scoring off a Gibbs assist while a woman up to knot things at 4-4. Scranton scored on a free position shot as they led 5-4 at the break.
Gibbs found Goodrich to once again tie things, but Scranton scored the next three goals as the Eagles faced an 8-5 deficit heading into the final quarter.
Scranton pushed the lead to four in the first 45 seconds of the fourth, but Goodrich added a free position shot goal before providing the assist for Gibbs's second with 11 minutes to go in the game. Scranton scored three goals over six minutes as they built a five-goal lead. Goodrich found Gibbs for one more in the final 15 seconds for the final goal of the game.
Juniata will travel to take on Marymount on Wednesday at 4:00.
