TOWSON, Md.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team got their first conference win of the year as they won comfortably at Goucher, 18-6, Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
Grace Gibbs broke the school record for goals in a single game with nine and the school record for points in a game as she added an assist. She also had two ground balls, four draw controls, and a caused turnover. Peyton Goodrich totaled five goals, two ground balls, two draw controls, and a caused turnover. Kelliann Drummond tallied a goal, an assist, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Shannon Para added a goal and an assist to go with two ground balls. Skyler Stevens chipped in with a goal, while Michaela Naccarini had an assist. Kyndall Yeager contributed a goal and an assist to go with a caused turnover. Chloe Gerhard made three saves in goal to get the win.
The Gophers scored the first goal of the game 42 seconds into the game, but the Eagles responded with five goals over the next eight minutes. Gibbs tied the game on a free position shot, Goodrich scored unassisted, and Drummond found Gibbs for another before Gibbs turned provider for Goodrich's second. Goodrich added another as the Eagles led 5-1. The Gophers sandwiched two goals around Gibb's third of the quarter as the Eagles led 6-3 after one.
The second quarter saw the Eagles take complete control of the game as they scored all seven goals of the quarter and outshot Goucher 15-3. Gibbs had three goals in the quarter, Drummond had two, and Stevens and Para each added one. Para added an assist, along with Naccarini.
Goodrich scored the lone goal of the third quarter, as Juniata led 14-3 heading into the final frame.
The fourth quarter saw the Gophers find some rhythm on offense as JC narrowly outscored them 4-3. With two minutes and 27 seconds to go in the game, Gibbs scored the final Juniata goal, her ninth of the game, which broke the program record for goals in a game previously held by Talia Bertrando '22 and Gibbs herself. It was also her 10th point of the game, which Bertrando also previously held.
Juniata held a 43-11 advantage in shots for the game and an 18-5 edge in groundballs.
The Eagles will host Catholic Thursday at 4:00.
