HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team opened their season in dominant fashion as they scored the first 18 goals of the game on their way to a 19-2 victory over visiting Westminster Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.
Grace Gibbs struck twice on a pair of eight-meter shots in the first four minutes of the game, with the second goal being the 100th of her career. She is the second player to cross the 100-goal threshold for the program, the first being Talia Bertrando '22.
Shannon Para added a goal of her own from a free position shot, and Isabella Michener and Kyndall Yeager found the back of the net less than a minute apart as the Eagles led 5-0 in the first eight minutes. Peyton Goodrich scored twice via an eight-meter, with the second coming while JC was down a player via penalty. Juniata led 7-0 after one.
The second quarter opened with Lapp's second goal of the day and Yeager tallying her second on a free position shot. Gwen DeLeva found Lapp cutting to the goal, and she beat the keeper for her third of the afternoon. Yeager scored her third a few minutes later, and Kelliann Drummond scored the final goal of the half as the Eagles led 12-0 at the break.
The Eagles found the back of the Titan goal five times in the third, with the fourth being scored by Skyler Stevens, her first collegiate goal.
Westminster scored twice in the fourth, and a final Goodrich goal, her fourth of the game, in the final 17 seconds, completed the scoring.
Juniata outshot Westminster 47-12 and held a 26-13 edge in groundballs. The win also marked the first career win for head coach Tori Quinn.
Juniata will host DeSales next Saturday at 1:00.
