Greyhounds Storm Back to Top Eagles

Greyhounds Storm Back to Top Eagles

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team held an early lead but ultimately fell short at Moravian as they lost, 17-9, Saturday afternoon at John Makuvek Field.

The Greyhounds scored four minutes into the game, but from the 9:51 mark on, it was all Eagles the rest of the quarter. Peyton Goodrich (Reading, Pa. / Berks Catholic) got loose for three goals over a little over two and half minutes of game action as she scored off assists from Talia Bertrando (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) and Grace Gibbs (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) along with netting on a free position shot. Gibbs then scored three goals of her own over a similar time span to increase the Eagle lead to five at 6-1. Moravian got one back, but the Eagles struck for two more in the final minute as Shayla Lapp (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) scored unassisted, and Gibbs netted her fourth of the day as JC led 8-2 after one.

Moravian took complete control of the game from there, scoring 13 unanswered goals through the second and third quarters until Goodrich's free position goal with seven minutes to go in the fourth quarter. The Greyhounds scored two more to complete the scoring.

Chloe Gerhard (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) made 16 saves in net for the Eagles. Moravians held a 21-9 edge in draw controls and a 25-16 advantage in ground balls.

Juniata will host Drew next Saturday at 12:00 for Senior Day.
