Gophers Get By Eagles

Natalie Gibson
Natalie Gibson tallied five goals, an assist, six ground balls, seven draw controls and two caused turnovers against the Gophers.

BALTIMORE, Md.-The Juniata women's lacrosse team dropped a 24-13 decision at Goucher, Tuesday evening at Beldon Field.

The Gophers scored less than a minute in, but a quick response via an Andrea Insalaco (Woodlyn, Pa. / Ridley) unassisted goal tied things at one. Over the next nine minutes Goucher struck three more times to lead 4-1.

Natalie Gibson (Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) found Fiona McDonald (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) with twenty minutes to go in the half to cut the deficit to two. Goucher countered with a four-goal rally over a five-minute span to go up 8-2. Gibson scored unassisted, the Gophers struck twice more before Arielle Danchenko (Palm City, Fla. / South Fork) found Insalaco for her second goal of the day.

Goucher scored three more times before half to lead 13-3 with just under two minutes to go. Gibson scored the final goal of the half as JC trailed 13-5 at halftime.

Santana Mays (Parkton, Md. / Hereford) scored the first goal of the second half, before the Gophers scored three in a two-minute span to stretch their lead to 10, 16-6. Danchenko scored once and Gibson followed with a pair of goals to slice the deficit to seven, 16-9, but Juniata got no closer the rest of the way.

Sara Deetz (Gloucester City, N.J. / Gloucester City) assisted Paige Riker's (Sussex, N.J. / Vernon Township) goal midway through the half.

Mays scored the final goal of the game off a feed from Deetz to complete the score line.

Isabella Medaris (Monroe, Conn. / Masulk) made 17 saves in goal for the Eagles.

Juniata will host #10 Catholic, Saturday at 1:00.
